Fleece Processing Prior to Shipment
Withing a few days after shearing, each
of the fleeces is heavily skirted to remove any wool containing unwanted contaminants. For example, in 2007 we skirted
140 pounds of rejected wool off of our total gross fleece weight of 297 pounds - almost half of our wool!
After
heavy skirting, a fleece is hand-picked to remove any small contaminant pieces that may be visible, resulting in a clean,
vegetable-matter-free, beautiful fleece, ready for photographing, weighing, and boxing for shipment. The staples photographed
for each fleece are randomly selected, tested for strength, and then folded into the identification paperwork for that fleece.
Finally, the fleece is folded and rolled, skin side out, placed in a plastic bag and stored in a temperature controlled climate.
Just prior to shipping, the bag is sealed, boxed, and addressed, ready for transportation to you! Please feel free to
contact us with any questions or coments - we are happy to hear from you!
